SIOUX CITY -- Sioux City police have released the name of the 6-year-old boy whose suspicious death they are investigating as Manuel Ramirez, a first-grader at Irving Elementary School.

On Tuesday, the school sent a letter to the parents of every student in Manuel's class, advising them of the death and letting them know that the school counselor had visited with the children about the loss of their classmate. The letter also encourages them to talk to their student about it.

Police were called at 9 p.m. Monday to Manuel's home at 1417 Virginia St. where they found the boy dead in the bathroom. Lt. Mark Kirkpatrick said Thursday that the officer in charge of the case was present at Wednesday's autopsy by the state medical examiner and has reported that no cause of death will be available for six to eight weeks, the time it will take to get toxicology test results.
