LE MARS, Iowa -- A 76-year-old man found unresponsive in rural Plymouth County Wednesday died from a medical condition before his vehicle left the road and struck a tree.

According to the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office, authorities were notified of a man found in the 16000 block of LeLand Drive north of Le Mars and near the intersections of U.S. Highway 75 and Iowa Highway 60.

Investigators determined that the 2005 Chevrolet Uplander was westbound on LeLand Drive when it left the road and struck a tree. The driver was transported to Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, where he was pronounced dead.

The initial investigation by officers and the Plymouth County Medical Examiner indicates that the man had a medical condition that caused his death prior to striking the tree, the sheriff's news release said.

The man's name is not being released pending notification of family members.
