SIOUX CITY | The Woodbury County Board on Tuesday is scheduled to interview two candidates for human resources director.

The position is open because J.D. Pellersels resigned in January. Interviews will be held in closed session at the end of the board meeting.

The interviews can be closed to the public under Iowa law. Board Chairman George Boykin, of Sioux City, said he would not share information about the candidates.

The department handles job openings, employee benefits and training. Pellersels was director from September 1996 to October, when he started a paid leave of absence. Board members have never explained his departure, citing confidentiality regarding personnel matters.

The board also Tuesday is scheduled to discuss having the county take over responsibility of a Correctionville, Iowa, road.

As part of a project to modernize U.S. Highway 20 through Correctionville, some of Iowa Highway 31 through town will be moved. A portion of Highway 31 will no longer be part of the state highway, and the jurisdiction for the highway will be transferred to the county.

The county cannot refuse the jurisdiction transfer. The Iowa Department of Transportation will give the county some money to pay for highway maintenance.

The meeting is at 10 a.m. at the Woodbury County Courthouse, 620 Douglas St.
