Donald D. Erickson, 78, of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2018.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered online at www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Don was born on Feb. 9, 1940, in Sioux City, the son of Donald O. and Mabel L. (Casey) Erickson. He attended Smith Elementary, West Junior and Central High School.
In Sioux City, he married Ann Louise Carlson Erickson and had two children, Duane Erickson and Lori Erickson Schindler. He divorced, and married Elizabeth Towns in Liberal, Kan., and divorced again.
At the height of his career, Don excelled at selling meat to the grocery store buyers. He worked as a sales executive at Iowa Beef Products in Dakota City, and then was hired as the president of sales at National Beef Products in Liberal, Kan. He also worked in sales at Swift & Co. in Omaha, Spencer, and San Antonio, Texas.
Don served as Exalted Ruler of the Sioux City Elks Club Lodge from 1978 to 1979. He also was actively involved with the Abu Bekr Shriners in Sioux City. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
He enjoyed competitive bowling and loved music. He played the saxophone in the jazz band at Central High School and loved playing the organ at home.
Survivors include his children, Duane Erickson and his wife, Jessica Erickson of Glenview, Ill., and Lori Erickson Schindler of Ladera Ranch, Calif.; sister, Nancy Erickson Kessler of Las Vegas, Nev., and her children, Tracy Kessler Zbiegen and Brian Kessler; grandchildren, Carter Erickson (14), Lilyan Schinder (13), and Grant Schindler (12).
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mabel Lucille Erickson and father, Donald Oliver Erickson of Sioux City; his aunt, Joyce Erickson Schneider of Hinton, Iowa; and his grandparents, Greely Casey, Emma Casey Johns, Gus Erickson and Olga Erickson of Sioux City.
