Larry Asher Collins was born Sept. 9, 1941, at Sioux City, the son of John Iliff and Elizabeth Louise (Nash) Collins. The family moved to Kingsley, Iowa, in 1943 and in 1950, moved to Mapleton, where they owned and operated Collins Implement. Larry grew up and attended school in Mapleton, graduating from Mapleton High School with the class of 1959. During his youth he helped out at the family’s John Deere implement business which exposed him to his lifelong interest in anything mechanical and "all John Deere." After high school, Larry attended college in Omaha. Continuing in the family business, he also took further training with John Deere. At the same time, Larry began his career in farming in the Mapleton area. He moved to Sioux City in 1986.

Larry loved riding his Harley and was a current longtime member of the El Forastero Motorcycle Club, Sioux City Chapter. He appreciated all that nature offered especially fishing, watering his lawn and simply observing all kinds of wildlife that might pass by his living room window daily. He also enjoyed playing pool and was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins. Above all, however, Larry loved his kids and grandkids.

Survivors include Larry’s wife, Barb; his daughter and her husband, Jodi and Brett Kafton of Mapleton; his son and his wife, David and Stacy Collins of Salix, Iowa; two stepdaughters, Trisha VanFossen and Nicole Gabriel and her husband, Anthony, all of Sioux City; a stepson, Harley Godfrey of Sioux City; grandchildren, Kiali and Ali, Brody and Bryce, and Xavian and Carlie; one brother and his wife, Walt and Julia Collins of Pocahontas, Iowa; one sister and her husband, Marge and Tom Senhen of Ida Grove, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Russ Moreland of Sioux City; and a special friend, Teresa Anderson-Bartels of Mapleton; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Stephen Kafton; and one nephew, Randy Collins.
