Mary was born on Jan. 11, 1936, in Struble, Iowa, to Joseph and Laura Schimberg. She was the oldest of five children, four girls and one boy.
On June 15, 1957, Mary married Donald Torno and they owned and operated D&M Upholstery for many years.
At the age of 65, Mary decided she wanted to learn how to play the organ, so she purchased an organ and started taking lessons. She shared her love for music by volunteering at nursing homes playing the organ and singing. Mary always had her handiwork with her, always knitting and crocheting, making hats and gloves for needy children.
Mary is survived by her three children, Duwanna Chesley and husband, Rick, Robert Torno, and Daniel Torno and his wife, Carolyn; her sisters, Barbara Claussen and Joan Atwood and her husband, Claire; four grandsons; three great-grandsons and three great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister; and brother.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Mary Torno's name can be made to Faith United Presbyterian Church.
