DAKOTA CITY -- Two men were taken to a Sioux City hospital with injuries Thursday after a train and a pickup truck collided in rural Dakota County.

According to a statement from the Dakota County Sheriff's Office, Rick Fowler, 47, of Moville, Iowa, was traveling east on 200th Street near Highway 77 at 11:30 a.m. in a pickup truck when he failed to yield the right of way for a northbound BNSF train. The train hit the rear passenger side of the pickup, causing the pickup to land upside down in a ditch between the tracks and Highway 77.

Bystanders rendered first aid to Fowler and his passenger, Kevin Rasmussen, 50, of Homer, Nebraska, until first responders arrived at the scene. Rasmussen was flown to Mercy Medical Center, while Fowler was taken to the Sioux City hospital by ambulance. Their conditions weren't available.
