NEWELL, Iowa -- A Storm Lake man was killed Wednesday after the agricultural sprayer he was driving was hit by a train at a rural Buena Vista County railroad crossing.
Kyle Drey, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene, Buena Vista County Sheriff Kory Elston said in a news release.
Emergency personnel received the report of the collision at the intersection of 170th Avenue and 620th Street about four miles northwest of Newell at 9:13 a.m.
A preliminary investigation showed that Drey had been driving east in the sprayer and had turned north to cross the railroad tracks on 170th Avenue when he was struck by the eastbound CN Railroad train. The sprayer rolled into the ditch, and Drey was ejected.
Elston said the crash is still under investigation.
