SIOUX CITY -- We have seen numerous Letters praising the council members who voted for the marriage resolution, but I would like to take the opportunity to say "thank you" to Mayor Hobart and Councilman Rixner for how they handled this situation.
They realized that regardless of their personal religious beliefs, this would have no legal standing and would only divide the city they are trying to serve. They were right. I applaud them for standing up to the pressure and hope that the citizens of Sioux City vote more people like them into office in the future.
We are seeing our city's boards and commissions being packed with these folks and I think it's time to wake up. If people want to spread their non-inclusive opinions and religious beliefs, do it in your homes and places of worship. The council chambers is not the place for that.
Thank you again, Mayor Hobart and Councilman Rixner, for doing the job that people voted for you to do. -- Scott Raasch
