SIOUX CITY - I have been a proud and loyal supporter of Susan G. Komen for the Cure for more than 10 years. I must admit, I was a bit leery to become involved as I had heard the same rumors being perpetuated by the writer of a Sunday Letter to the Editor headlined "Komen ties to Planned Parenthood raise concerns" and others in Siouxland and across the nation.
Fortunately for me, I was able to keep an open mind and through my own personal research and involvement with the organization was able to learn the information I had been given was not only misleading, but in many cases was outdated and unsubstantiated.
During my time on the local board and by volunteering my services for this wonderful organization, I have had the honor and privilege to meet many breast cancer and other cancer survivors and their family members. I truly admire the strength and courage of these cancer survivors and the strength and love of their family members.
Siouxland, it is my hope and prayer that you will put the rumors and misinformation behind you and join us on Mother's Day as we celebrate and honor those men and women in our lives who have lost their battle to breast cancer and lend our support to those who are in various stages of their battle with this deadly disease.
It is clear to me and the hundreds of thousands of people worldwide involved with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, our only vision is a world without breast cancer. - Susan Hall
