MOVILLE, Iowa -- A house east of Moville sustained slight damage after the property owners attempted to burn an abandoned house on the property.
Moville Fire Rescue Chief Jerry Sailer said that crews were called to 1450 Jewell Ave. at around 12:30 p.m. Friday. An attempted controlled burn of the old building had gotten out of hand.
"Property owner had pushed the old, two-story house into the foundation and was doing a controlled burn on it," Sailer said. "And it got burning too hot, too fast."
The current residence had vinyl siding on the garage melt slightly in the conflagration, but there was no smoke damage to the interior. There were no injuries of residents or firefighters.
In addition to Moville, fire departments from Lawton, Bronson and Pierson responded to the fire.
