SIOUX CENTER, Iowa | Sioux Center is moving forward with plans for a $6 million expansion of the city's outdoor aquatic center.
The Sioux Center City Council on Monday approved an agreement with Waters Edge Aquatic Design to proceed with a final design of the expansion at the All Seasons Center, located in the 700 block of Seventh Street Northeast. Improvements include a lazy river, diving boards and a variety of water slides.
"We are looking forward to having people of all ages come enjoy these aquatic recreation additions. This project is all about adding to the great quality-of-life options in Sioux Center and supporting our growing community," city manager Scott Wynja said in a news release.
Wynja said previously that expansion ideas came from feedback gathered from the public and the development of the city’s parks master plan.
Wynja said the city is planning to pay for the project through existing funding sources such as tax increment financing, local option sales tax and cash reserves rather than raising property taxes.
Construction of the expansion is expected to begin in the spring with a potential opening date in the summer of 2019.
