BEATRICE, Neb. (AP) — A convicted sex offender has been sentenced to 30 to 50 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 3-year-old girl.
Beatrice radio station KWBE reports that 37-year-old James Richards, of Beatrice, had already served two prison terms when he pleaded no contest in June to third-degree sexual assault of a child. He was sentenced Wednesday in Gage County District Court.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, the man admitted that from Oct. 20, 2017, through Nov. 18, he knowingly failed to register or update his registration as required by the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Russell Morrison assaulted a girl after providing her with alcohol. The minor could not recall many details of the assault, but learned of it later after images of her were shared on Snapchat.
Authorities say the 12-year-old girl told investigators the man forced her to perform sexual acts, then told her he'd distribute nude photos of her if she didn't perform more sexual acts, which he recorded.
