STORM LAKE, Iowa | One man died and two others escaped injury in a crash Friday night east of Storm Lake.

Buena Vista County Sheriff Kory Elston reported in a news release that authorities responded to the accident near U.S. Highway 71 and 615th Street at about 11:07 p.m.

A vehicle driven by Anthony Bruhl, 25, of Storm Lake was northbound on the highway when it collided with a southbound semi truck being driven by Geoffrey Sonnemaker, 54, of Omaha, the release said.

A third vehicle, driven by Krysten Tatum, 29, of Sac City, Iowa, struck debris left behind from the collision.

Bruhl had to be extricated from the wreckage. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Sonnemaker was uninjured. Tatum suffered minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital, according to the release.

The accident is still under investigation. -- Mike Bell
