Glory to God and kudos to Iowa's Republican-led Legislature for the courage displayed in passing the “Heartbeat” bill, which is one of the most important pro-life bills since the Roe v. Wade decision by the Supreme Court in 1973. It prevents abortions after the heartbeat is heard, which happens around the sixth week of gestation.

According to the American College of Pediatricians, the knowledge that life begins at conception has been known for millennia. How then, did the left and the educational elites get away with telling our young people that what is forming in their wombs was “just tissue”? Who colluded with them to pass this off as truth?

The Supreme Court activist judges made their decision not based in fact but instead on their political ideology. They were well ahead of the people’s attitude about abortion when it made the landmark decision creating a right to privacy in order to legalize abortions on demand. It was a social experiment much like their recent decision to legalize same-sex marriage before the public agreed with their philosophy. The left cannot get their way through legislation so they turn to the courts which have been staffed with people of their same ilk. The left, of which the mainstream media is part, has worked tirelessly to reframe the argument to be about self-determination, sexual freedom and control of one’s body. There is no mention of the rights of the person in utero.

The South Dakota Legislature passed SB110 which brings transparency to the disclosure of information given to women seeking abortions at Planned Parenthood in Sioux Falls, the only abortion clinic in South Dakota. This bill was passed overwhelmingly, according to Concerned Women for America’s (CWA) newsletter, as a reaction to Planned Parenthood’s failure to adequately present disclosures required by law. Now some of what is required is to reveal medical risks, including potential depression and related psychological distress and increased risk of suicide ideation and suicide; that abortion terminates a life; that the unborn child has protection under the U. S. Constitution and the laws of South Dakota (CWA South Dakota, spring 2018).

The abortion industry is more about money than primarily helping women, which has been revealed by videos by the Center for Medical Progress. These videos show the care with which abortion clinics go to preserve certain parts of the infant’s body that are more profitable for them. If they truly cared about women they would adopt an approach to help moms raise their unplanned children. Pro-abortion groups justify dismemberment, poisoning or crushing an infant’s body. Would this same group allow this to happen to an innocent animal?

Along with Iowa's Republican-led Legislature and Gov. Kim Reynolds, we have a president who is supporting life over abortion. He instituted the “Protect Life" policy and proposes to redirect Title X funds from Planned Parenthood to federally qualified health centers in the American Health Care Act (AHCA). This bill was passed by the House, but the Senate has yet to pass it. Let your senator know your opinion on this bill.

The majority of Americans, six out of ten, believe taxpayer funds should not be used for abortions, according to a recent Marist poll. The National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA), a national legal network of pro-life pregnancy centers, found that 78 percent of women considering an abortion choose life once they have seen an ultrasound. Ultrasounds are taking power away from Planned Parenthood because the power of a picture is greater than the words of abortion promoters. A local pregnancy care center, Her Health, confirms those statistics and says eight out of 10 women who have an ultrasound choose life.

Life, in a March 5, 2015, article, stated that “Technology reveals the truth that they try to hide from women. When a woman sees her preborn child on an ultrasound, with a beating heart by 22 days post-fertilization, she will most likely choose life.”

Prayer warriors are finally seeing the fruits of their fervent prayers which have the real potential of reversing Roe v. Wade, which I believe was wrongly decided. “Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9). Respect for the sanctity of life at all stages is increasing in favor. Whether popular or not, life is sacred in that we are made in the image of God. Preserving innocent life honors God, the Author of life.
