Are you paying attention to the road or the trailer, just at your neck height, when you pass that truck on the interstate? Little scary to think of surviving that accident, isn't it?
Two mothers who lost three daughters to truck underride accidents have tirelessly, at their own expense, pushed Congress for a bill to prevent most truck underride accidents. Thus, Senate Bill 2219 and HR 4622 have been introduced with bipartisan support. This law would require sideguards to be installed on commercial trucks, possibly preventing between 200 and 1,000 U.S. deaths per year.
Encourage your lawmakers to support this preventative law. We have already lost 9,600 to 48,000 Americans to these horrific circumstances since 1969. Believe me, this is an accident to be avoided. I know, as I was a victim who miraculously survived in 1974. - Anita Bomgaars, Orange City, Iowa
