Sad to read about the passing of musician Grant Hart of Husker Du (Journal, Sept. 15).
College Radio in the early 1980s was the home to many good and interesting bands that would never see air play on mainstream radio. R.E.M. is one of the few bands to make the jump from Indie label and college radio to well-earned mainstream success.
In my opinion, the best music today is still played "Left Of The Dial," the name of a song by The Replacements. KMSC, the voice of Morningside College, provides listeners with refreshing songs, not worn out by the repetition of overplay, which has become the norm of commercial radio.
In memory of Grant Hart, I ask all fans of alternative music to listen to the Husker Du album "Flip Your Wig." For those who have never heard the album, you will be able to appreciate the impact this band had on other bands to follow. Good memories never fade. And neither does good music. - Douglas Heeren, Spink, S.D.
