Some livestock farmers might choose instead to chop cornstalks into silage or have animals feed on it in the field. Those who choose to proceed and harvest the grain will face challenges dealing with downed cornfields.

If social distancing policies remain through the rest of the year, the state’s ethanol and hog industries could each lose lose more than $2 billion. Losses in the corn industry could reach $788 million, cattle $658 million and soybeans $213 million.
