Senior middle blockers Christi Huigens of College of Saint Mary and Tara DeBoer of Dordt College have been named the 2005 NAIA All-America second team in women's volleyball.

The 5-11 DeBoer earns second-team laurels and being accorded first-team honors as a junior. The graduate of Hull Western Christian High School averaged 4.9 kills and 1.2 blocks a game this season for the Defenders, who advanced to the NAIA national tournament for the third time in the past four years.

She finished her career with 2,311 kills, including a school single-season record 706 this season.

During her career DeBoer helped Dordt to a 144-20 match record and 62-2 mark in Great Plains Athletic Conference competition.

The 5-11 Huigens, a graduate of Sioux City Bishop Heelan High School, was recently named Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference player of the year and the NAIA Region IV player of the year.

"This is well deserved honor seeing competition out at the natinoal tournament and having Christi on our team," said College of Saint Mary Coach Trish Siedlik. "She is definitely one of the most athletic middles that was out there.

"She may not have been the tallest, but she was dominant at the net."

Huigens helped CSM to a 35-8 record and berth in the national tournament.

The 12-player first team includes 10 foreign players, including Verania Willis of two-time national champion California Baptist. The 6-foot sophomore, named player of the year, is from San Jose, Costa Rica, as is sophomore teammate Angela Willis.

Iowa Wesleyan's Lauren Baylon is from Lima Peru, while Fresno Pacific's Loretta Zuletta is from Columbia, Leslie DaSilva and Kellen Foganholi of National American (S.D.) are from Brazil, Shu Liu of Fresno Pacific from China , Ana Mecado of Missouri Baptist from Mexico, Rose Obunga of Columbia (Mo.) from Kenya and Madonna's Natalja Tinina from Latvia.

Madonna's second first-team selection, Ashley Frost, is from Lake Odessa, Mich.

Along with DeBoer, Dordt's Emily Van Voorst was named honorable mention. Van Voost, like DeBoer from Rock Valley and a prep standout at Western Christian, averaged 13.9 assists and delivered 30 ace serves this season.
