POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. | Morningside College's baseball team dropped 5-3 and 7-2 games to College of the Ozarks Saturday.
Nate De Chaine had three hits in the first game to lead a nine-hit attack but Morningside stranded nine runners. Richard Mitchell pitched five innings in the first game and struck out three for the Mustangs.
Morningside was limited to four singles in the second game and a four-run second inning by COO was more than enough to secure the win. The two teams have another scheduled doubleheader Sunday at 1 p.m.
BENEDICTINE 10, NORTHWESTERN 2: Benedictine scored six runs in the fifth inning and went on to defeat Northwestern Saturday in Joplin, Mo.
Northwestern took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Matt Martin’s solo home run. Pinch-hitter Mason O’Donnell hit an RBI single in the fourth inning.
Losing pitcher Victor Mena allowed one earned run, five hits and one walk while striking out two. Northwestern’s defense committed four errors.
