BVU baseball game time changed

STORM LAKE, Iowa – The Buena Vista baseball team opens its 2018 season Saturday with a doubleheader at Washington University (Mo.). Game time has been bumped up to an 11 a.m. first pitch to ensure the doubleheader is done before sunset and to allow Washington staff some extra time between baseball and the NCAA regional basketball games it is also playing host to later that evening. Start time for Sunday’s nine-inning game will remain at noon.

Dance members earn All-America honors

SIOUX CITY – Three members of Morningside College’s competitive dance team were named 2018 NAIA All-Americans for their performances in last Friday’s All-America tryouts at the NAIA Northwest Qualifying Group Tournament in Sioux City.

The Mustangs’ NAIA Competitive Dance All-Americans are Kayla Inlay, a junior from Sioux City; Miranda Shipley, a junior from Des Moines, Iowa; and Jenna Winkler, a sophomore from Papillion, Nebraska. All three were NAIA honorable mention All-Americans last season.

Morningside’s Jessica Bennett, a senior from Sioux City; Nicole Hahn, a senior from Sioux City; and Danielle Plathe, a freshman from Algona, all received NAIA honorable mention All-America recognition this year.

USD golfers led by Petersen

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – South Dakota junior Lexi Petersen led the South Dakota women’s golf team with a 58th place finish at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic Tuesday.

Petersen shot a third-round 78 to finish with 227 strokes over the tournament. She totaled five birdies over the three rounds and was 22nd in the field with an average of 3.07 strokes on par-3 holes. Senior Abby Dufrane finished five strokes behind Petersen with a 232 to finish tied for 102nd position.

Petersen and Dufrane finished in the top-third of the field with 33 pars throughout the tournament.

As a team, South Dakota placed 36th with 949 strokes over three rounds and two courses.

SIOUX CITY – Morningside College made changes to its softball schedule.

The Mustangs will not compete in this weekend’s Gulf Coast Invitational in Gulf Shores, Alabama, but instead will compete in the Friends University Invitational on Saturday, March 3, in Wichita, Kansas.

The Mustangs will play games against Bethel College at 4 p.m. and Friends at 6 p.m.

Morningside added two doubleheaders to next week’s schedule. The Mustangs will play a 2 p.m. doubleheader against the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma on Monday, March 5, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, and a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Bethel on Tuesday, March 6, in North Newton, Kansas.
