IOWA CITY | Mason McCoy hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to score pinch runner Corbin Woods with the winning run as Iowa defeated Milwaukee 4-3 in a non-conference baseball game here Tuesday evening.
Zach Fricke walked to lead off the Hawkeye ninth and Justin Jenkins was hit by a pitch to put runners on first a second. Mitchell Boe's bunt single loaded the bases and McCoy followed with a hit to left field.
The Panthers got the lead in the top of the first inning on a solo home run by Daulton Varsho. Varsho, the son of former major leaguer Gary Varsho, had one hit on the night.
Iowa took the lead in the bottom of the first, scoring twice on a double by Robert Neustrom that scored Jake Adams and a single by Tyler Cropley that plated Neustrom. After Milwaukee tied the game in the top of the second, Iowa went back ahead in the third Adams hit a solo homer, his 15th of the season. The Panthers tied the score in the seventh on a run-scoring single by Dylan Detert.
Drake Robison, the sixth Iowa pitcher of the night, pitched the final two innings and struck out four to get the win. He is now 3-2. Iowa (24-15) hosts Penn State in a three-game series starting Friday.
