SIOUX CITY -- Morningside College baseball coach Jim Scholten has announced that he is retiring at the end of the season, according to a press release from the school.
Scholten has spent 28 years at the helm of the Mustangs baseball program. A search for Scholten's successor will begin immediately, according to Morningside College Athletic Director Jerry Schmute.
Scholten's teams compiled a 627-612-4 record during his career. In 2008, Scholten guided the Mustangs to a 32-17 record and the Great Plains Athletic Conference postseason tournament championship.
Scholten, a native of Larchwood, Iowa, was also elected to the Iowa Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1992. Prior to his Morningside stint, he was the head coach at Mason City Newman and Nevade High Schools, compiling a 252-94 career record and leading Newman to the 1977 Iowa Class IA state tournament.
