SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- Briar Cliff remained alone in first place in the Great Plains Athletic Conference men’s basketball standings with an 89-80 win over Dordt at DeWitt Gymnasium here Saturday.
The No. 4 (NAIA Division II) Chargers moved to 19-2 overall and 8-1 in the GPAC, one game ahead of crosstown rival Morningside.
Briar Cliff paraded to the free throw line 45 times, making 38, including a 24-for-29 performance in the second half.
Jackson Lamb was one of five players in double figures for BCU with 20 points. Blake Wiltgen added 15 points and six rebounds, Erich Erdman 14 points, Ethan Freidel 12 points and Jay Wolfe 10 points.
Wolfe, Lamb, Erdman and Freidel were a combined 31 of 35 from the free throw line.
Marcus Winterfeld and Kyle Lang tallied 13 points apiece for Dordt (9-12, 3-6). Ben Gesink chipped in 12 points and Jesse Jansma 10. The Defenders made 10 more field goals than BCU, but were outscored by 26 points from the charity stripe.
