USD women reach Summit League semifinals

SIOUX FALLS | South Dakota’s women’s basketball team extended its winning streak to 15 straight games while posting a 73-54 win over Denver in the opening round of the Summit League Tournament Saturday afternoon at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.

Coach Amy Williams’ Summit League regular-season champions shot 58.6 percent in the second half while extending a 27-21 halftime lead. South Dakota’s 26-10 third-quarter run began with two straight layups from Margaret McCloud while later in the third, Tia Hemiller scored three baskets in a span of less than two minutes, two of those coming from three-point range.

Nicole Seekamp, the Summit League Player of the Year, scored 17 points and threw six assists. Fellow starters Kelly Stewart and Hemiller added 14 and 13 points, respectively, while Abigail Fogg came off the bench to tally 10.

Paige Bradley paced Denver (5-25) with 19 points.

South Dakota (25-5) will face the winner of the Oral Roberts/Western Illinois in the Summit League semifinals Monday, beginning at noon.
