CANCUN, Mexico | South Dakota pulled away in the second half en route to a 71-59 women’s basketball win over Indiana State in the Cancun Challenge here Friday.
Four of five starters reached double figures for the Coyotes (3-2) led by Madison McKeever with 14 points. Allison Arens chipped in 13 points while Jaycee Bradley and Ciara Duffy added 11 points each.
USD trailed 25-21 at halftime and was behind for part of the third quarter before rallying. The Coyotes took the lead on a couple of free throws early in the third quarter and were up by six points before Indiana State went back in front by three with just under two minutes remaining.
McKeever’s layup with six seconds left gave the Coyotes a 49-48 lead after three quarters and they doubled the score (22-11) on Indiana State in the fourth.
Duffy pulled down a team-high six rebounds and McKeever dished our four assists. Indiana State’s Ashley Taia led all scorers with 21 points.
USD faces No. 12 Tennessee here Saturday.
