FREMONT, Neb. | Morningside College’s women’s basketball team went on a 19-4 run in the game’s final eight minutes while rallying for an 88-79 Great Plains Athletic Conference victory over Midland Saturday afternoon at Wilkert Event Center.
Taylor Bahensky scored 21 points for Morningside (23-7, 14-6 GPAC), which is seeded third in the upcoming Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament. Lexi Ackerman added 17 points for Coach Jamie Sale’s eighth-ranked Mustangs.
Midland (15-14, 8-12) shot 58.6 percent while taking a 55-43 halftime lead, an advantage that grew by three more points when Chansea Nelson hit a three-pointer to begin the third quarter. Morningside pulled within 68-64 when the third quarter ended.
Hillary Huss’ two free throws increased Midland’s lead to 75-69 with 7:59 left. Morningside then scored the game’s next 15 points, including Ackerman’s three-point basket with 6:08 left that produced a 76-75 lead.
Jenna Bork came off the bench to score 11 points for the Mustangs, who outscored Midland 24-11 in the fourth quarter. Three of her teammates each tallied 10 points – Madison Braun, Sydney Hupp and Rachelle Housh.
