MOVILLE, Iowa -- Woodbury Central High School senior Nick Phelps has been named the Iowa Gatorade Player of the Year in boys high school track and field.

Competing for Kingsley-Pierson/Woodbury Central, Phelps won both throwing events at Class 2A state meet. He broke a 50-year old record with a 67 feet, 2 inches effort in the shot put, then won the discus (185-9) for the third straight year.

Phelps also won his first-ever Drake Relays championship in the shot put. His winning 65-3.5 showing was the Drake Relays’ second-best effort in the last 40 years.
