SIOUX CITY — The Mount Marty men's soccer team gave Morningside a battle throughout, but the Mustangs got a goal in the 24th minute from Moritz Lusch and a late insurance goal from Gary Ryder to gain a win in the quarterfinal round of the Great Plains Athletic Conference men's soccer tournament at Olsen Stadium Wednesday evening.
Both Mustang goals came from the right side and Noah Aniser had assists on both scores. Ryder's tally in the 89th minute was arched over Mount Marty keeper Jesus Basurto.
Morningside had a 20-5 advantage in shots on goal and didn't give up a shot after the intermission. Pedro Fernandez had one save in net for the Mustangs (17-2-0).
Morningside will host No. 4 seed Briar Cliff in a semifinal match Saturday.

BRIAR CLIFF 3, NORTHWESTERN 2: Briar Cliff scored all three goals in the first half and then held off a Northwestern rally after the break to complete a 3-2 win in a Great Plains Athletic Conference men's soccer tournament quarterfinal match at Faber Field Wednesday.
The Chargers got goals from Joao Pedro Lime (19th minute), Sebastian Justiniano (34th minute) and Marcus Horwood (40th minute) to lead 3-0 at the break. Jacob Harvey had an assist on Justiniano's tally while Rodrigo Oliveira had the helper on the Horwood score.
Northwestern pulled to within 3-1 in the 66th minute on a goal by Matthew Roll and then added a second when Ron Hengst found the back of the net in the 82nd minute.
Keeper had six saves in goal for Briar Cliff while James Warren made four saves for Northwestern.
The Chargers advance to the semifinals of the tournament with a 10-2 record while the Raiders drop to 6-6.
