SOUTHEAST POLK, Iowa -- The Morningside women's cross country team won the Grand View Invite on Friday by 25 points over NIACC. The Mustangs placed five runners in the top 10 to score 31 points.

Senior Allison Higgins led the way for the Mustangs by finishing third in 20:20.1. Megan Maaske, Natalie Lambert and Tenna Beal were all close behind as they finished fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively. Maaske ran 20:57.5, Lambert crossed the line in 21:00.2 and Beal finished in 21:04.2. Alex George took 10th in 21:27.7.

The Morningside men finished second eight points behind NIACC's 34 points.

Connor Ritz and Anthony Patton led the way for the Mustangs in third and fourth place, respectively, in 28:00.6 and 28:11.0. Dylan Lindstrom finished 11th in 29:26.8 and Zach Ambrose was 13th in 29:34.5 while Michael Rizzi took 16th in 30:08.5. Garrett Hanson finished 27th, Lane Ausdemore was 37th and Drake Beller was 41st.


LINCOLN -- The South Dakota women finsihed second to Michigan in the red division of the Woody Greeno/Dirksen Invite on Saturday, 96-20.

The Coyotes were led by Megan Billington's 21:46.7 to finish 10th while Laura Nelson took 17th in 22:08.6. Madeline Huglen was 19th in 22:11.5 and Kianna Stewart was 26th in 22:29.1.

In the gold division, Wayne state was fourth, Briar Cliff was sixth and Buena Vista was seventh.

Wayne State's Andrea Torres was 19th in 25:48.9 while Buena Vista's Wren Klump ran a 26:06.1 to take 22nd. Briar Cliff was led by Kait Pauls in 26th in 26:36.8.

The USD men took eighth with 239 points and were led by Eldon Watner's 31st-place showing in 26:04.4.

In the gold division, Wayne State took fifth and Buena Vista was sixth.

The Wildcats were paced by Dylan Kessler in 13th place as he ran 27:30.3 while Briar Cliff's Dalton Demers ran a 27:48.9. Buena Vista's Alec Hirsch finished 28th in 29:36.
