WICHITA, Kan. | The Sioux City Bandits could not rally late in the fourth quarter and lost to Wichita 42-35 on the road Saturday night.
The loss dropped the Bandits to 2-2 on the season while Wichita is now 3-1.
The Bandits had a 35-32 lead early in the third quarter on a Frederick Bruno touchdown run. That lead would not last as the Force got a touchdown late in the third and tacked on a fourth-quarter field goal.
Sioux City was shutout in the fourth quarter.
The Bandits trailed 32-28 at halftime as a late safety and a field goal with one second left gave the Force the five-point swing before the break.
Sioux City opened up the game on offense just as it did a week ago against Salina when Charles Dowdell hit Jeremiah Oates on a long touchdown pass with its first offensive play. The two would hook up on another first-play TD drive in the second quarter to give the Bandits their first lead of the game at 28-27.
The Bandits had a pair of interceptions in the first half getting one from Denzel Adams and Rahn Franklin.
The Bandits are off next week before traveling to Omaha to face the Beef on Friday, April 10.
