Wichita hands Sioux City Bandits first loss


WICHITA, Kan. – Rocky Hinds threw four touchdowns passes and the Wichita Force toppled the undefeated Sioux City Bandits 56-43 in a Champions Indoor Football game at Intrust Bank Arena here Saturday.

Sioux City (4-1) had the ball on its own 5-yard line with 2:20 left in the game trailing 49-43, but the Bandits turned the ball over on downs with 48 seconds left in the game. Two plays later, Wichita (3-3) scored on a 1-yard touchdown run from Edward Smith, giving the Force a 56-43 lead and putting the game out of reach.

Hinds completed 18 of 30 passes for 114 yards. D.A. Allen caught 10 passes for 58 yards and a pair of scores.

With the game tied at 33-all, Wichita’s Kendrick Harper intercepted a Liam Nadler pass and returned it 10 yards for a touchdown, giving the Force a 40-33 lead with 1:38 left in the third quarter they would not relinquish.

The Bandits scored on their next two drives, a Greg Conry field goal and a Frederick Bruno touchdown reception from Nadler, but couldn’t get a stop on defense.

Nadler completed 8 of 21 passes for 103 yards and three touchdowns but also threw a pair of interceptions. Bruno caught three passes for 35 yard and two scores in his first game back after an injury. Soloman St. Pierre had two interceptions

The Bandits scored on their first offensive play of the game, a 26-yard pass to Bruno from Nadler. Sioux City has now scored on its first offensive play in three of five games this year.

The Bandits play next at the Quad Cities Steamwheelers on Saturday in Moline, Illinois. The Bandits defeated Quad Cities 45-35 in Sioux City on March 18.
