STORM LAKE, Iowa | Wartburg won for the ninth time in as many games and rolled to a season-high for points as it defeated Buena Vista 56-14 in an Iowa Conference football game at J. Leslie Rollins Stadium Saturday.
The Knights shrugged off an early BVU touchdown to post victory behind four touchdown passes by Matt Sacia.
The Beavers scored first when Cole Miller found Colby Laughlin on the opening series of the game for a 31-yard touchdown.
Dylan Binion rushed for 159 yards and scored three times and answered Laughlin's score with a three-yard TD run with 9:32 left in the opening quarter.
The Knights scored another touchdown on a 38-yard pass from Sacia to Griffin Brennecke to go up 14-7 then hiked the lead to 14 points on a four-yard run by Binion early in the second quarter.
The Beavers sliced the Wartburg lead to 21-14 on a six-yard pass from Miller to T.J. Lint but another Sacia pass to Brennecke gave the Knights a 14-point lead again at the intermission.
Miller passed for 342 yards on 26-of-45 passing but could not direct any scoring drives in the second half while the Knights pulled away with 28 points in the third quarter.
Wartburg (9-0 overall and 7-0 IIAC) will look to wrap up an unbeaten regular season when they host Nebraska Wesleyan next Saturday.
Buena Vista (3-6 overall and 2-5 IIAC) closes out the season when it plays at Coe next Saturday.
