DES MOINES -- A big third quarter had Sheldon looking like it would end its season with a win, but the offense disappeared in the fourth quarter of a 65-52 loss to Aplington-Parkersburg Thursday.
The Orabs (22-5) outscored the Falcons 24-15 in the third quarter of the Class 2A third-place game at the Iowa Boys State Basketball Tournament to take a 46-44 into the fourth quarter. However, Sheldon managed just six points in the final frame.
Aplington-Parkersburg got 17 points from Alec Oberhaser and 16 from Carter Cuvelier to go along with 10 rebounds. Dylan Ellis added 12 points.
The Falcons hit nine 3-pointers to three for Sheldon which helped offset the 35-26 advantage the Orabs enjoyed on the boards.
Sheldon was paced by Kyle Boerhave's 19 points and 10 rebounds while Jaden Kleinhesselink had 11 points and eight rebounds. Ryan Van Marel added six points and 10 rebounds.
The game featured eight ties and nine lead changes but Sheldon never led by more than three.
Aplington-Parkersburg concluded the season at 25-2.
