WATERTOWN, S.D. -- Vermillion played its best game of the Class A South Dakota Girls State Basketball Tournament Saturday as it captured seventh place.
The Tanagers handled Crow Creek 76-54 with strong shooting that had eluded them the first two days. Vermillion led 16-9 after one quarter and finished the game shooting 49 percent. The Tanagers got 48 points in the paint and dominated the boards with a 48-18 advantage in rebounds.
Kasey Herbster led the way for Vermillion with 21 points, Haleigh Melstad had 15 points and Lexi Plitzuweit and Madisen Martinez added 10 apiece.
Marveen Ross and Haylee Langdeau had 11 points each for Crow Creek.
Vermillion concludes its season with a 19-7 record.
