WATERTOWN, S.D. -- Aberdeen Roncalli used a 20-6 run in the third quarter to seize control of its Class A state basketball consolation game with Vermillion on Friday to earn a 58-45 victory.
Vermillion and the Cavaliers were tied at 26-all at halftime, but the Tanagers struggled to put the ball in the basket after halftime finishing with 19 second-half points.
Vermillion struggled shooting for the second straight game as it shot 29 percent from the floor and went 6 of 25 from beyond the arc.
Aberdeen Roncalli hit 21 of 23 free throws in the game while Vermillion shot seven total. Mariah Winegar led Roncalli with 21 points and nine rebounds and Grace Imbery had 12 points. Jami Ewart added 10.
Haleigh Melstad led Vermilliion with 17 points but she was the only player to reach double figures.
Vermillion (18-7) will play in the seventh-place game against Madison at noon Saturday.
