REMSEN, Iowa | Canaan Cox rushed for 197 yards and four touchdowns while leading second-ranked Remsen St. Mary’s to a 58-13 rout over Boyer Valley in a first-round Eight Player state footballler playoff game Friday night.
Tyler Brimm added season-highs of 123 yards and four yards on the ground for Remsen St. Mary’s (9-0), which exploded for 434 yards total offense, all of it rushing. The Hawks jumped to a 25-0 first-quarter lead, one of Cox’s touchdowns set up by the first of Kenny Bohnenkamp’s two interceptions.
Cox, whose longest touchdown run of the night went for 26 yards, enters this Friday’s quarterfinal round game at Audubon (10-0) having rushed for 1,549 yards and 31 touchdowns. Freshman Jeremy Koenck’s 70-yard rushing performance included a 22-yard score.
Carter Kuchel had four solo tackles and four tackle assists for a Remsen St. Mary’s defense that allowed 79 yards total offense. Noah Schroeder added four solo tackles, one tackle and one interception.
