COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa -- Nate Zyzda ran for three touchdowns and threw for two more as Sioux City East leveled its record at 2-2 with a 49-0 win over Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln here Friday.
The shutout was the first for the Black Raider defense since 2015. Zyzda threw for 200 yards and needed just four carries to reach 99 yards on the ground.
The Black Raiders scored 21 points in each of the first two quarters.
The first touchdown came on a Zyzda to Caleb Winter 47-yard pass before Zyzda capped two more drives with runs of 63 and two yards to paydirt.
Alex Kleider started the scoring in the second quarter with a 4-yard TD effort. Kayden Jones then scored on a 45-yard pass from Zyzda, and the senior QB also scored on a 34-yard run. Kyler Peterson had the other score for East on an 8-yard run.
The East defense allowed little more than 100 yards of total offense to CBAL (0-4) on the night.
"We have had our ups and downs and against Heelan and (Sergant Bluff-Luton). I felt like our mentality was we were beat before the game started," East coach Brian Webb said. "We have to prepare and play hard regardless of who our opponent is. I thought we were a lot more physical on Friday."
East hosts Des Moines Hoover on Thursday at Olsen Stadium to open district play.
