ORANGE CITY, Iowa -- Hunter Dekkers passed for 299 yards and threw for five touchdowns as he led No. 5 West Sioux to a win over the Unity Christian 36-0 in a Class 1A District 1 game played in Orange City Friday.
Kade Lynott was the leading receiver for West Sioux (7-1 overall, 4-0 district) with three catches for 120 yards and a pair of scores. Chase Koopmans also caught two passes for scores. The Falcon defense earned the shutout and also got a safety in a tackle in the end zone by Trevor Schuller.
WESTWOOD 14, TRI-CENTER 6: Sean Westergaard ran for a touchdown and passed for another to rally Westwood to a 14-6 win over Tri-Center in a Class A District 10 football game Friday in Sloan.
Tri-Center (5-3 overall and 2-2 district) led 6-0 at the half thanks to a three yard TD run bu Trevor Carlson. Westergaard gave the Rebels (7-1 overall and 4-0 district) the lead for good on a 71 jaunt with eight minutes left in the third quarter and connected for an insurance score on a seven yard pass to Dillion Hunger with 10:30 left in the game.
TREYNOR 55, MVAOCOU 14:The Cardinals stayed unbeaten in Class 1A District 9 with a win over the Rams in a game played in Treynor Friday.
Treynor jumped to a 35-0 lead after one quarter and cruised to its seventh win against one loss. Quarterback Jake Fischer ran for two touchdowns and passed for another for the Cardinals.
The Rams (1-7 overall, 0-4 district) scored on a fumble return by Ely Funderman and a 21 yard pass from Funderman to Aaron Michael.
EMMETSBURG 20, WESTERN CHRISTIAN 14: Zach Foxhoven hauled in a 21-yard touchdown pass from Connor Joyce late in the third quarter for the only points of the second half and the E-Hawks went on to record a win in a Class 1A District 1 game played in Emmetsburg Friday.
Western Christian (3-5 overall, 2-2 district) had a 14-7 lead in the second quarter thanks for a 5-yard scoring pass from Carter Broke to Zach Van Essen and a 3-yard TD run by Carson Elbers
Emmetsburg (4-4 overall, 3-1 district) tied the score at 14-14 just before the intermission on a 52-yard pass from Corbin Saathoff to Ben Dunlap.
WOODBURY CENTRAL 14, LAWTON-BRONSON 0: Mitchell Countryman scored one touchdown and forced three turnovers on defense as the Woodbury Central football team earned a 14-0 win over Lawton-Bronson on Friday in Lawton.
Countryman’s scored on a 1-yard run in the first quarter for Woodbury Central (5-3). Defensively, Countryman had two interceptions and recovered one fumble.
Seth Stamm scored on a 5-yard fumble return in the second quarter to put the Wildcats on top 14-0.
Lawton-Bronson falls to 4-4.
ALGONA 30, SPIRIT LAKE 24: Matt Grein scored on a 5-yard run with 30 seconds left in regulation to break a tie and give the Bulldogs a win over the Indians in a Class 2A district 2 game played in Algona Friday.
Grein had three scoring passes to go along with his winning run as Algona improved to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in district. Quarterback Connor Jensen passed for one touchdown and ran for another for Spirit Lake (6-2 overall, 2-2 district).
AKRON-WESTFIELD 38, SOUTH O'BRIEN 13: Nick Jacobs ran for 138 yards and scored three TDs as he led the Westerners to a win over the Wolverines in a Class A District 1 game played in Akron, Friday.
South O'Brien took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter on a 3-yard TD run by Tristan Wilson but the Westerners took command with 22 points in the second frame to lead 22-6 at the half.
Jacobs scored on runs of three, one and 31 yards before the half and added a 20-yard scoring pass to Chase Stowe in the third quarter. John Henrich also scored on a 1-yard run for A-W, which moved into a three-way tie with South O'Brien and Hinton for the district lead with a 3-1 mark.
HINTON 17, GEHLEN 14: The Blackhawks moved into a tie for the Class A District 1 lead with a win over the Jays in Hinton Friday.
Jesse Ridgway scored on a 3-yard run in the first quarter for the only points before the intermission to give Hinton a 6-0 lead. Wyatt Stuckey added a 9-yard run for a TD in the third quarter and following a PAT run by Ridgway, the Blackhawks led 14-0.
Gehlen (1-7 overall, 1-3 district) broke through on a 1-yard run by Zach Kraft and after Kraft also caught a PAT pass from Brian Livermore to pull the Jays within 14-8.
Andrew Hessa kicked an important 30-yard field goal to put Hinton up 17-8. Jacob Nemmers scored on an 83-yard put return with under two minutes to go for Gehlen.
Hinton can wrap up the district crown with a win over South O'Brien next Friday.
AR-WE-VA 64, KINGSLEY-PIERSON 42: Keegan Simons passed for 328 yards and six touchdowns to lead No. 1 Ar-We-Va to an eight-man District 1 win over the Panthers in a game played in Kingsley Friday.
Derek Oeser hauled in three touchdown passes and Drew Schurke caught two scoring passes as tje Rockets won for the eighth time in as many games.
Freshman Damon Schmid had over 100 yards rushing and receiving and scored two touchdowns for the Panthers (4-4 overall, 2-4 district). Jessen Reinking also run for two scores for K-P.
NEWELL-FONDA 24, REMSEN ST. MARY’S 22: R.J. Rojas made a 20-yard field goal on the final play of the game to give Newell-Fonda a 24-22 win over Remsen St. Mary’s on Friday in Newell.
Trailing 22-21 with 2:33 left in the game, the Mustangs (7-1) started their final drive around their own 25-yard line. Bryce Coppock completed a 25-yard pass to Hunter Christiansen on fourth and 10 to extend the eventual game-winning drive.
Coppock completed 8 of 13 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns, a 31-yarder to Tanner Gerke and a 25-yarder to Treyton Mahler. Coppock also ran 28 times for 124 yards.
Blaine Harpenau rushed for 147 yards on 27 carries with touchdown runs of 47 and 3 yards for St. Mary’s (5-3). Harpenau also completed 6 of 8 passes for 113 yards and one score.
PONCA 26, CROFTON 0: Gage McGill had 207 yards rushing and scored three touchdowns to lead the Indians to a win in Ponca Friday. Ponca improves to 3-5 on the season while Crofton is 1-7.
EP-J 43, VERMILLION 27: Riley Schmitz scored on a quartet of touchdown runs as the Elk Point-Jefferson football team defeated Vermillion 43-27 on Friday in Vermillion.
Schmitz scored on runs of 53, 7, 5 and 38 yards for the Huskies (3-5).
Jacob Peterson had four touchdowns for Vermillion (2-6). Gray Peterson caught touchdown passes of 43 and 31 yards from Jacob and Trevor Tarr caught a 51-yard touchdown pass. Jacob Peterson also scored on a 13-yard run.
