Sr., RB/CB, OABCIG
LAST WEEK: Cranston set the tone for a dominant performance with his 62-yard touchdown catch on the second play of the game in a 35-6 Class 2A District 9 win over Shenandoah at Ida Grove. The 6-foot-1, 168-pound senior established season-highs in catches (5) and yards (210) while adding a 62-yard TD catch in the second quarter. En route to topping 100 yards receiving for the second time in his last three games, Cranston had receptions of 10 and 59 yards.
TONIGHT: OABCIG (6-1) is in the thick of the District 9 race, one of three 2-1 teams. District 9 leader Carroll Kuemper (4-3, 3-0) hosts the Falcons and will definitely be focused on Cranston, who has 22 catches for 662 yards, seven touchdowns and a whopping 30.1 yards per catch.
Jr., QB/DB, Bloomfield
LAST WEEK: Thanks to rainy conditions in Friday’s Class D2 District 3 game at Randolph, No. 7-ranked Bloomfield went to the rushing attack perhaps a bit more than they have thus far this season. Eisenhauer, a 5-foot-8, 155-pound senior, rushed nine times for 122 yards and touchdowns of 34 and two yards in a 30-12 win over the No. 8 Cardinals. He was one of two 100-yard rushers in the game as Will Fehringer, prior to a season-ending broken leg injury, carried 18 times for 107 yards.
TONIGHT: According to Bloomfield Coach Matt Kuchar, Eisenhauer will get more rushing chances with Fehringer out of action. Heading into the District 3 home game against Wynot (2-4), Eisenhauer has rushed for 290 yards and two touchdowns while passing for 545 yards and nine touchdowns.
Sr., WR/DB, North
LAST WEEK: Searching to end a five-game losing streak, North tried a bit of trickery on the opening drive of Friday’s Class 4A District 1 game. It worked as quarterback Matt Hagan flipped a pass to Frerichs in the backfield and Frerichs spotted a wide-open Caleb Crum, who tiptoed into the end zone while snagging a 30-yard pass to give the Stars a 7-0 lead. Frerichs had a team-best eight catches for 79 yards in the Stars’ 48-23 triumph.
TONIGHT: North (2-5, 1-2 Class 4A District 1) will search for a second straight victory when it goes on the road to play Ankeny (3-4, 2-1). Frerichs is the second-leading receiver on Coach Mitch Mohr’s club with 30 catches for 558 yards and nine touchdowns.
Jr., RB/DB, South O’Brien
LAST WEEK: Wilson is one of Northwest Iowa’s best small-school running backs, currently ranked fifth in Class A with 1,190 yards. For the seventh week in a row, the 5-foot-10, 180-pound junior topped triple-digits, rushing 29 times for 185 yards and touchdowns of 2, 11 and 16 yards as South O’Brien improved to 3-0 in District 1 following a 35-0 triumph over Le Mars Gehlen. Wilson also contributed a tackle for loss at his cornerback position for a defense that posted its second straight shutout.
TONIGHT: South O’Brien (4-3, 3-0) will rely upon Wilson once again in a key District 1 game at Akron-Westfield (5-2, 2-1). Wilson has scored seven of his nine touchdowns in the last three weeks when he has rushed for 557 yards and a sharp 7.6 yards per carry.
