SERGEANT BLUFF -- Class 2A 12th-ranked Sergeant Bluff-Luton jumped out to a 4-0 first half lead and downed Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson 5-2 here Monday.

David Clausen got the scoring started with his penalty kick in the 16th minute. That was followed by an Andres Patino goal off a Clausen assist in the 19th minute. Cole Garrett found the back of the net off an assist from Ty Shoulders, and Eliel Martinez converted on a free kick from 25 yards out to make it 4-0 at the break.

Clausen would add the lone goal of the second half for the Warriors.

SB-L outshot CBTJ 22-16 with Brennan Sitzmann making five saves in the first half for the Warriors and Ross Gengler corralling nine in the second half.

The Warriors are now 9-4 overall and play at Missouri Valley on Tuesday.

NORTH 3, WEST 0: The Stars got an early goal from Lami Gemeda in the eighth minute unassisted and tacked on two more late to earn the win over West Monday at Leeds Field.

North saw Gemeda score again in the 77th minute and Hamza Deko added the final tally in the 79th minute.

Antony Tran made four saves to record the shutout for the Stars, who outshot the Wolverines 9-4.

North, which saw the junior varsity win 3-0, is now 6-7 and hosts Heelan on Friday while West falls to 6-7 and hosts Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln on Tuesday.

EAST 4, HEELAN 0: The MRAC champion Black Raiders, No. 14 in Class 3A, blanked Heelan behind goals from Jose Ruiz, John Coronado, Sergio Ruiz and Eduardo Ramirez. Sergio Ruiz had a pair of assists and James Page added another.

Junior Rojas made a pair of saves to record the shutout for East, which outshot the Crusaders 13-2.

East is now 10-2 while Heelan is 5-7.


HEELAN 5, WEST 2: Bishop Heelan got two goals and a pair of assists from Ellie Gengler to down West on Monday. Gengler scored three minutes in and then assisted on Ashlyn Peck's goal 15 minutes later to put the Crusaders up 2-0 at halftime.

Gengler would score again three minutes into the second half before the Wolverines got on the board when Emily Molden scored on a free kick. Molden had the other West goal on a penalty kick.

Marry Kate Fitzsimmons and Katie Cooke closed out the scoring for Heelan.

Heelan is now 6-7 and West is 4-7.
