DES MOINES -- Newton rallied from a 6-1 fourth-inning deficit to down Sergeant Bluff-Luton 7-6 in eight innings in the Class 4A third-place game at the Iowa Girls High School State Softball Championships at Harlan Rogers Sports Complex on Friday.
The Warriors scored three time in the top of the first inning and added three more in the fourth.
Emma Christensen began the game by reaching on an error, stole second and scored on a Chloe Black bunt. Kenzie Foley would drive in in the other two runs.
Christensen would drive in Abby Lewis with the first run in the fourth and Black would bring the final two home with a double to left. Both Christensen and Black were named to the all-tournament team.

Newton would get back in the game with a three-run home run from Harlie Durr which led to a four-run sixth inning. Newton tied the game with two outs in the seventh inning, and won it in the eighth as the game went to international rules with a runner starting at second base.
Christensen and Madelyn Mogensen both hd two hits as the Warriors had seven in the game.
Newton had 13 hits off SB-L pitcher Bradee Bouman and saw pitcher Peyton Maher strike out 10 Warriors.
SB-L, which went 0-3 at state a year ago, finished the season with a 24-15 mark while Newton is 26-8.
