ANKENY, Iowa | It was a big day for Sioux City Metro swimmer Hope Cvrk at the regional swimming meet in Ankney on Saturday.
The freshman qualified for state in the 50 freestyle and the 100 butterfly while also being part of the 200 and 400 free relays.
Cvrk took third in the 50 free in a time of 24.41 to qualify while she was third in the butterfly in 58.79. She will be joined by Spencer senior Madison Sieperda in the 50 free as she swam a 24.88 for the 18th fastest time in the state.
Spencer junior Emma VerSteeg also qualified in the 100 backstroke in 59.24, and Storm Lake's Grace Meier took the final qualifying spot in the 100 breaststroke in 1:0904.
The 200 freestyle relay team of Cvrk, freshman Avery Koopmans, sophomore Lily Wright and senior Caroline Oberg swam a 1:42.32 to finish fourth. Spencer's team of VerSteeg, sophomore Karli Olsen and seniors Maddie DeWitt and Sieperda also advanced to state taking third in 1:41.79.
The 400 relay team of Cvrk, Oberg, Koopmans and sophomore Madison Slaughter took fourth in 3:45.68. They were one spot behind Spencer's quartet of VerSteeg, DeWitt, Olsen and Sieperda who swam a 3:42.51.
Spencer will send a third relay to state with the 200 medley as VerSteeg, DeWitt, Sieperda and junior NancyLynn Maris finished third in 1:52.78.
The state meet is at the Marshalltown YMCA on Saturday.
