SPEARFISH, S.D. -- Elk Point-Jefferson sophomore Kenna Curry won the Class A discus title and Dakota Valley seniors Alyssa Johnson and Nikita Reinschmidt went 1-2 at the South Dakota State Track and Field Meet in Spearfish on Friday.

Vermillion senior Maddie Lavin won the 3,200-meter title for the second time in her career in 11:27.75. Lavin's teammate Taryn Whisler was eighth in 12:05.27.

Curry won by more than seven feet with a throw of 125 feet, 9 inches. Curry would finish third in the shot put at 37-10.

Johnson won the high jump title by clearing 5-4 while Reinschmidt was the runner-up at 5-3.

Vermillion's 4x800 team of Rachel Brady, Whisler, Madisen Martinez and Lavin finished as the runner-up in 9:48.24. St. Thomas More won in 9:33.50.

The Tanager boys matched the girls recording a second-place finish in the 4x800. Tommy Nikkel, Justin Sorensen, Hunter Lavin and A.J. Plitzuweit ran 8:07.86 while West Central won in 8:06.86.

Elk Point-Jefferson's Drake Peed took sixth in the shot put with a throw of 48 feet. Dakota Valley's Cole Bergman cleared 6 feet to finish in seventh in the high jump.

Vermillion's girls 4x200 relay team of Ellie Schroeder, Rachel Brady, Kenna Druecker and Mack LaBrune advanced to the finals with a sixth-place showing in 1:47.86, and the 4x100 squad of Schroeder, Emily Stockwell, Druecker and LaBrune took third in 50.90 to advance. The Tanagers also saw the sprint medley reach Saturday's final for both the boys and girls. The boys ran 3:42.74 to earn the top time.

The Panthers boys 4x200 team of Tadd Green, Cole Schulz, Travis Ohl and Eli Gaiani finished fourth in 1:30.92 to advance to Saturday's final. Vermillion's 4x400 had the third fastest prelim time of 3:34.27.

Dakota Valley's Travis Ohl qualified for the finals in the 100 finsihing seventh in 11.20 and the 200 where he was eighth to the line in 23.21. Nikkel ran 51.44 to finish third in the 400 prelims, and teammate Matt Bierle finished sixth in the 300 hurdle prelims in 41.43.

LaBrune advanced to the finals in the 200 taking seventh in 26.40
