*-Records going into Monday night’s game
Monday night’s game will resume with 34 seconds left in the first period with Madison holding a 2-1 lead before play was stopped due to an apparent burst pipe ... Now tied with Lincoln for sixth place in the Western Conference, Coach Luke Strand’s Musketeers tied that contest 1-1 last Wednesday at the 9:28 mark as Martin Pospisil (7 goals, 20 assists) extended his scoring streak to seven games on a goal assisted by Matyas Svoboda (3, 5) and Nate Clurman (2 assists) .... A defenseman, Clurman, who assisted on a first-period goal to Dylan Mills (8, 2) in Friday night’s 4-1 win over Muskegon, had just come in a trade from Des Moines for defenseman Lucas Bahn on the day the Musketeers played at Muskegon ... Clurman, overall, has a goal and seven assists in his first USHL season, spending 23 games with Tri-City, then 15 at Des Moines ... Mills, who began his season at Waterloo where he had two goals in five games, became the fourth Musketeer, joining Cole Koepke (20, 5), Sampo Ranta (15, 8) and Micah Miller (15, 8) to record two goals in a game when he scored in the first and second periods at Muskegon Friday ... Ranta had both a goal and the lone goal in a shootout when the Musketeers defeated Madison 2-1 in a shootout on Nov. 17 at the Tyson Events Center ... Koepke has 13 goals and three assists against Eastern Conference teams this season while both Ranta and Micah Miller have six goals and two assists ... Sioux City is 0-1-1 against Waterloo this season, falling 4-1 on Oct. 20 and 3-2 in overtime on Nov. 3, both games at the Tyson ... Ranta had the lone goal in the first meeting, while both Randy Hernandez (3, 6) and Hayden Rowan (2, 7) each recorded a goal and an assist in the second meeting ... Micah Miller has provided three goals and an assist while scoring in four of his last five games.
Seventh in the Eastern Conference with 41 points, Madison enters the completion of tonight’s contest with a two-game losing streak, falling by 4-2 scores to Cedar Rapids (Feb. 18) and Green Bay (Feb. 24) ... Scoring leader Alec Broetzman (19 goals, 17 assists) had a four-game scoring streak come to an end against Green Bay ... Broetzman assisted on a goal from Brendan Walkom (4, 10) that snapped the 1-1 tie last Wednesday against the Musketeers while Anthony Callin (10, 12) scored the game’s first goal that night ... Madison has five others with double-digit goal totals – Mick Messner (11, 19), Kamil Sandlocha (11, 16), rookies Michael Mancinelli (11, 13) and Ryan O’Reilly (16, 6) along with Verners Egle (11, 6) ... O’Reilly scored the Capitols’ lone goal in the 2-1 shootout loss at the Tyson Events Center ... Dryden McKay (17-15-3, 3.09 goals-against-average) leads USHL goaltenders with 2,136 minutes and 1,185 saves.
Third in USHL scoring with 49 points (27 goals, 22 assists), Jackson Cates has recorded a goal and two assists against the Musketeers this season, including the game-winning goal in the 3-2 overtime win ... Cates, who had his second hat trick of the season in Saturday night’s wild 8-5 loss to Lincoln, has scored in eight of his last nine games, providing 10 goals and five assists in that span ... A Minnesota Duluth recruit, Cates is tied for the league lead with 10 power play goals ... Harvard recruit Jack Drury is tied for sixth in the league with 42 points (15, 27), which includes three assists in the two wins over the Musketeers ... Drury is third in the USHL with 14 power play assists and has also scored eight power play goals ... Boasting the league’s fourth-best power play (21.9 percent), Waterloo has four others with at least three man-advantage goals, including Ben Copeland (11, 28), who like Drury, has three shorthanded goals.
