Cole Koepke (21 goals, 6 assists) and Dylan Mills (9, 3) are the hottest scorers as of late for Coach Luke Strand’s Musketeers, as both players assisted on a first-period goal from Sampo Ranta (17, 8) for a 1-0 lead in Tuesday night’s 2-1 loss at Waterloo … Koepke, now fourth in the United States Hockey League in goals, has provided six goals and five assists while scoring in seven of his last eight games while Mills has recorded four goals and an assist in his current four-game scoring streak … Mills began his first USHL season with five games at Waterloo, where his two goals included a first-period goal in a 4-1 win over the Musketeers on Oct. 20 … Ranta has two goals this season against Waterloo while both Randy Hernandez (3, 6) and Hayden Rowan (2, 7) have each recorded a goal and an assist for a team that's 0-2-1 against the Black Hawks … Sioux City’s penalty kill has converted 10 of 12 chances against Waterloo’s fourth-ranked power play (20.8 percent) …. The Musketeers are 0-1-3 against Tri-City this season, which includes a 3-2 shootout loss on Oct. 28, a 3-2 overtime loss to Nov. 24 and a 5-4 shootout loss on Jan. 5 … Ranta had the first of his two 2-goal games in the first of the Bulldogs’ two shootout losses and overall, has three goals and an assist against Tri-City … Micah Miller (15, 9) and Ryan Leibold (5, 4) each have two goals and an assist in the season series versus Tri-City while defenseman Keegan Mantaro (2, 4) delivered assists on goals scored by Mills and Micah Miller in the first and third periods, respectively in the 5-4 shootout loss.
Second in the USHL with 51 points, Jackson Cates (28 goals, 23 assists) forced a 1-all tie on a goal 27 seconds into the third period and Bobby Trivigno (10, 16) scored at the 3:05 mark to give Waterloo a 2-1 win over the Musketeers Tuesday night at Young Arena … Cates, who scored the overtime goal in a 3-2 win at the Tyson Events Center on Nov. 3, has scored in nine of his last 10 games, providing 11 goals and six assists in that span … Jack Dugan (15, 28) ranks sixth in the league with 43 points … Drury has eight power-play goals, two fewer than Cates … Cates, Drury and Garrett Wait (15, 15) have each recorded four game-winning goals … Former Musketeer Solag Bakich (4, 13) assisted on Cates’ goal … Bakich had a goal and two assists in eight games for Sioux City and also registered three goals and three assists in 24 games last season after he was acquired from Des Moines … Jared Moe (16-6-1) is sixth in the league with a 2.05 goals-against-average while Matej Tomek (11-8-3) is 10th (2.54).
Goaltender Filip Larsson (18-10), the USHL’s leader in goals-against-average (1.65), save percentage (.941) and shutouts (7) recorded his latest shutout in last Friday’s 1-0 win over Cedar Rapids … Seven different players have scored goals in a current three-game winning streak, including Tyler Madden (12 goals, 13 assists), who snapped a 2-all tie with a third-period goal in last Saturday’s 4-2 win over Des Moines … Madden began his season with six goals and eight assists in 18 games for Central Illinois … Former Musketeer Connor McMenamin (5, 16), who had eight goals and 10 assists last season for the Anderson Cup champions, assisted on Madden’s goal and added an empty-net goal later for his fifth multi-point game of the season … Eleven different players have scored at least one goal against the Musketeers … Both Tyler Ward (9, 12) and Hugo Blixt (7, 13) each have five power-play goals, while the Storm’s penalty kill is second in the USHL at 86.0 percent.
