JEFFERSON, S.D. -- Saturday night is kids night at Park Jefferson Speedway. Track officials have organized a kids candy dash at intermission, and the track will be giving away two bicycles for kids. All six of the IMCA classes will be on hand.

Park Jefferson Speedway will turn the corner on summer this Saturday night as the point battles hit the stretch run. With only four nights of track point racing remain, drivers will continue to jockey for position and the right to call themselves the 2018 Park Jefferson Speedway track champions.

In addition, drivers in the modifieds will be getting in their final night of racing before the highly anticipated invasion of the IMCA Modified Dirt Track Knights on Monday, July 23. Local drivers Jay Noteboom, Chris Abelson, Todd Boulware and Bob Moore will be getting ready to withstand the siege of the Dirt Knights such as Missouri’s Hunter Marriott, Fertile’s Kelly Shryock and the always fast Ricky Thornton.

Gates open Saturday at 5 p.m. with hot laps slated for 6:30 p.m. Adult tickets are $12, seniors 70 and over are $5 and children 6-16 are $2. Children under 6 are free.

With the weather-delayed midseason event finally in the rear-view mirror, Raceway Park's racing season  is down to seven nights of points racing before champions are crowned.

"We have some stuff scheduled in September and October but we are past the midway point, but the third time was a charm (for the championships)," track promoter Greg Golden said. "It went real well. Car count was up attendance was up. It was a nice night."

Rain is in the forecast but Golden is hoping to get Sunday's event in. All five IMCA classes will be action with bicycles and other items will be given away. The Big Wheel Racing Series will also continue its run.

"The track last week was real good and we are happy with it right now," Golden said.

Grandstand general admission is $12, while $5 is the charge for ages 6 to 16 and senior citizens age 65 and over. Youth five and under will be admitted free. Pit passes are $30.

Pit gates will open at 5 p.m. Hot laps will start at 6:15 and racing will follow at 7 o’clock.
