ORANGE CITY, Iowa | Dordt scored a 3-1 triumph over Northwestern in a Great Plains Athletic Conference volleyball tournament semifinal Wednesday at the Bultman Center.
Fourth-ranked and second-seeded Northwestern won the first set 25-23 before fifth-ranked and third-seeded Dordt won the next three 25-14, 25-21, 25-20.
The Defenders, now 29-5, will play at Hastings Saturday in the GPAC tournament championship match. That’s a rematch of last year’s NAIA national championship match, won by Hastings.
Hastings, Dordt and Northwestern shared the regular season GPAC title. Northwestern, which will more than likely receive an at-large berth to the national tournament, has a 28-4 record.
Dordt won two out of three matches against the Red Raiders this season.
Ema Altena nailed a team-high 13 kills for the Defenders, while Leah Kamp added 11 and Julia Lindbergh and Ally Krommendyk nine kills each. Dordt posted a .277 attack percentage.
Jamie Gesink charted 40 assists and Summer Jansen 12 digs. Altena and Kamp had three block assists apiece.
For Northwestern, Lauryn Hilger and Anna Kiel each slammed 12 kills, while Makenzie Fink and A.J. Horstman had 11 each. Lacey Wacker had 47 assists and Karsyn Winterfeld 20 assists and six digs. Kiel contributed three solo blocks and three block assists.
