1. Jukebox hero
Got stars in his eyes! And so do the contestants of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sioux City's Jukebox Heroes: The Karaoke Battle. If you think you have the best karaoke voice, then we suggest you take part in this competition. Give your best live performance and you could win a spot in the finals on Dec. 15 and earn the fist place prize of $1,000. Four finalists are selected each week -- those four automatically receive $100 as a reward. Be part of the action at 8 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 30) inside Anthem.
2. Holiday joy & mayhem
Despite what all those Christmas songs want you to believe, the holidays aren't always "holly jolly" or "joyful and triumphant." No, no. Sometimes it's a real pain. But it's not all bad either. Sometimes it's downright inspiring. Ode's storytellers are expected to reflect on these ideas at the Ode Holiday Show starting at 7 p.m. Friday (Dec. 1) at ISU Design West in downtown Sioux City. Jessica Zepeda will play live music before the sessions.
3. Crackin' deez what?
Nutcrackers are synonymous with the holiday season, much like wreaths, holly berries and The Elf on the Shelf. And a big reason we remember these decorative figurines during the holidays is because of "The Nutcracker Ballet" by Tchaikovsky. This classic show -- presented by Siouxland Civic Dance Association -- will be brought to life at 6 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 3) at the Sioux City Orpheum Theatre.
4. Nice sweater! Or not...
How awesome is it that there are parties in this world that actually encourage guests to wear an "ugly" piece of clothing? Sadly, our closets are full of more than just ugly Christmas sweaters, but that's not going to stop us from celebrating. Aorta Music & Management Sioux City present the Ugly Xmas Sweater Party with musical guests Sweet Ascent, GhostCat, Close to Most, Winter Wayfarer and Artificial Stars. Join in on this all ages show at 7 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 3) at Whiskey Dick's. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
5. Friday night spotlight
Could these three country music artists be the next big thing? We ask this because it seems like every time a bunch of newer country artists are featured at Hard Rock, a select few make it big and earn hefty award nominations from the Grammys and CMAs. Taking the Anthem stage are Brooke Eden, Walker McGuire and Chris Bandi. See them all at 8 p.m. Friday (Dec. 1) inside Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sioux City.
6. Saturday soul
Enjoy the weekend with a bit of "heavy soul and boogie trance." That's how The Kris Lager Band describes its unique sound. The group has played in Sioux City numerous times and knows how to get the crowd a-movin'. Get ready for one helluva time at 9 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 2) at The Marquee.
