1. Saturday! Saturday! Saturday!

Sioux City’s annual outdoor music festival is finally here! Co-headlining the Main Stage of Saturday in the Park are Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit and Boz Scaggs, with supporting acts Galactic, Dave Mason & Steve Cropper, Delta Rae, Emily Johnson Band and Lil Red & the Medicated Moose Band. Headlining The Abe Stage is Arrested Development, accompanied by My Posse in Effect, Jon Wayne and the Pain, City of the Weak, GhostCat, Thick Mistress, Vibe Rations and Young Rambo, with EDM closers ALX and Scnd Sndwch. Saturday in the Park begins at noon Saturday (July 7) at Grandview Park.

2. Afterparty!

Oh you thought Saturday in the Park was finished after the fireworks? You are sorely mistaken, folks. The Official Saturday in the Park Afterparty features The Abe Stage performers, My Posse In Effect, a Beastie Boys tribute band, as well as a handful of local openers. Let’s keep the party going! The fun begins at 10 p.m. Saturday (July 7) at The Marquee.

3. Something big and festive is in town

We’ve got our beads ready. Who wants ‘em? The Big Parade and the Mardi Gras Festivale are coming to Siouxland. The Big Parade is scheduled to begin Friday (July 6) evening in downtown Sioux City, starting on Iowa Street and ending at the Tyson Events Center parking lot. Afterward, get your tickets for the “Taste of Louisiana” Cajun meal at the Mardi Gras Festivale. Following the food, there's the costume parade that's free and open to the public. There will be plenty of other festivities to take part in as well. Oh! And there will be fireworks as dusk.

4. Is this thing on?

Now, us Weekender writers are probably the funniest people you’ll ever meet. We’re not bragging or anything, but we couldn’t definitely tell a joke or two on a stage… in front of strangers… performing prepared material… and doing so in the right amount of time… Actually, no. We’re not funny at all. We don’t have the guts to take part in Siouxland Comedy Open Mic Night at Marty’s Tap. But we bet you could do it. If not, stop by for a laugh  at 8:30 p.m. Thursday (June 28) at Marty’s.

5. Music trivia

You thought trivia nights were cool? Wait ‘til you try out Music Trivia Night! Test your music buffness at this friendly competition that awards cash prizes to the winner. Wait, what? Cash? Give us that green! Take part in Music Trivia Night at 7:30 p.m. Thursday (July 5) at The Marquee. Music Trivia Night is held every first Thursday of every month.

6. A bit of coffee, a bit of taco

Coffee and tacos. That’s the diet of your everyday Weekender writer. Sure, the doctors may say it’s “bad” or “not healthy,” but what do they know? Have they even tried coffee or tacos?  (Disclaimer: The Weekender does not advise you to do nothing but eat tacos and drink coffee every day. That’s kind bad. We’re just trying to make a point here.) If you like this awesome combination of treats, stop by Tacos & Nosh Thursdays starting at 7 a.m. every Thursday (July 5) at the Morningside Branch Public Library.
